Talk About an Excuse

Heather Bachman - November 2, 2004
George Bush helping the victims of Hurricane Frances

After my class reviewed the first Presidential debate, I watched how so many students commented on how horribly our President performed. The trembling voice, the facial responses etc. They then turned to me (as I have become the token Republican in many of our classes) for a response.

I recalled where each of the candidates were just before the Florida debate. John Kerry was getting a manicure and a man-tan, while preparing responses with hired ad visors. On the other side of society, so to speak, where was President Bush? Touring the costly and tragic results of the many hurricanes that hit the south east recently.

It was then that I was accused of making excuses for my President. I sighed, injured and upset. As time passed, their words nagged me like George Soros nagging the constitution. Then it came to me: It's not an excuse, it's an example. An example of what a real President is supposed to do.

I wasn't saying that Kerry should have been on the same trail, however I would be very shocked if he was. What I am saying is that in the event of a conflict, this President is by our side. As the leader of the free world, George W. Bush understands that the people should always be the top priority no matter what schedule conflicts there might be. The president, and anybody aspiring to be the president should understand this responsibility.
